Everyone is welcome to attend any book discussion at Prospect (and you don't even have to read the book or say anything if you'd rather just listen). We typically meet in the lounge at 6:30 PM on the third or fourth Thursday evening in selected months. If you have any questions or have suggestions of good books to consider, please contact Nancy Varness.
6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25
On May 25, we’ll be discussing The Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny Nordberg. This prize-winning, nonfiction book shows the strong cultural preference for sons in Afghanistan and the severe restrictions on females. For various family reasons, some young girls are temporarily raised and presented as boys. They are able to move about freely as are the boys. But at puberty, they must resume their limited lives as women, to marry and bear children.
July (date to be determined)
In July we will discuss I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban.
