Pastor Steve's Monthly Message

Message from Pastor Steve

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be trans- formed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. - Romans 12:1-2.

The pattern of this world is the mind of Adam. The pattern for our lives is the mind of Christ. Transformation happens as we willfully decide to turn away from the ingrained pattern of the broken and distorted mind of Adam (into which we are born and see at work in the world far too clearly!) and place ourselves before God in a way that we can be transformed by the renewing of our mind.

It begins with declaring, “Jesus, I belong to you.” God beckons us to say it until we mean it and when we mean it, start to pray it.

Note something else here. Paul doesn’t say offer your body. It’s bodies—plural. And it’s “living sacrifice,” singular. And back to our text from Philippians 2:5 we are to have the mindset of Christ “in your relationships with one another”?

Life and Faith are team sports; not a solo flight. We are not transformed alone. I’m going to start pushing us harder and harder on this issue of banding together with a few other believers for the work of depth discipleship (Growing Deep to Reach Wide!). The reason most of us are stuck is we do not have the kinds of relationships it takes to sustain the level of work the Holy Spirit wills to do in our lives.

With all of this in mind...I’d encourage you all to consider joining one of our existing small groups, band together to form a new group, or check out the RightNow Ministry resource for an online small group connection option.
